In the 1980s, he co-founded Interscope Records, which later went on to become one of the most notorious and successful record labels. Interscope was known for signing and promoting controversial artists such as Tupac Shakur and Marilyn Manson, which helped the label gain a reputation for being edgy and innovative.

In addition to his work at Interscope, Iovine produced several successful albums, including Stevie Nicks's "The Wild Heart" and Tom Petty's "Full Moon Fever." In 2010, Iovine became chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M, a position he held until 2014. That year, he and Dr. Dre, another music industry executive, founded Beats Electronics, which produces high-end headphones and speakers. In 2014, Apple acquired Beats for $3 billion, making Iovine one of the wealthiest individuals in the music industry.
